    Hi - another new member

    Hi all

My name is Christie, and my boyfriend and I have been interested in property for a while. I'm a doctor and he's a CA but ultimately we'd like to get out of the big city and have some financial independence - particularly him as my job is more flexible. He'd like to be doing property investment full time, We have 2 properties between us - which we have renovated, and loved doing that!  But these properties have been to live in, not purely as investments.

So we'd like to get into more serious investing now. We've been doing quite a bit of research - read Simon Zutshi's book - a million times better as a starter, than Andy Shaw's which I found useless to be honest! I couldn't face wading through through all the sales/motivational talk to find the facts, which I'm sure are probably there! I now want to read something with a bit more substance!

I stumbled on this site by accident and it was such a relief to be able to read honest opinions - particularly on things such as books to read and courses. There's so much 'Become a millionaire in 1 year' rubbish on the internet when you look up 'property investment course'!! And of course the more I read on the site, the more invaluable advice and tips I've come across.

Although I've done a bit of renovating, and grown up with parents who've spent their lives buying and renovationg properties in South Africa - I don't think I'll be teaching the knowledgeable people on this site very much - but I'll be learning a great deal - thank you!

    Hi Christie

Welcome to the forum, you stumbled upon a great place. You are correct property is for the long term, the people who promise a quick millionaire route are not worth spending any time on.

Take your time, plan well, and read read read.

I am sure you will get to where you want to be if you take the time to do your research.

Good to have you here !

    Christie,

Whenever you go to a seminar or a any kind of event (heck, even reading a book), if you come out of it with 1 or 2 pearls, you will be doing well. Your way of doing business will evolve more and more. What you start with isn't what you end up with. Just keep doing your research, surround yourself with good partners and eliminate risk.

Good luck in all you do.
