    Floor construction in flats

Hi there,Does anyone have any experience of the types of floor construction need for a 2nd floor flat in a new build scenario. Does it have to be a precast slab ( or a number of these) or does block and beam covered in a concrete screed satisfy the building regulations in terms of sound transmitted and heat etc..

    Cheers

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

Hollow core concrete slabs,10mm sound proof matt, 50mm polystyrene insulation and 75mm sand cement screed. Most companies will quote for slabs, delivery and installation. I find this the fastest and cheapest way to fit floors to new build apartments.

Doesn't all new build flats come under the design of Robust Details?I thought this is what Building Control would expect unlike the nightmare I went through when converting and extending a 3bed semi into 4No. flats.

    Re: Floor construction in flats

    Hi there,

thanks for the responses, i've spoken to a few suppliers and the definite way to go is the hollowcore slabs which come pre-cast for dropping onto the inner block wall.

    Cheers
