    Investing in Indian equities

Does anyone have any experience or guidance on investing in individual equities in India from the UK?

The only I can find is to set up an expensive Demat account with an Indian bank and operate through there.  Does anyone know of any UK-based brokers who can buy on your behalf in the Indian market, the BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange)?

I already have some funds there, but would prefer to have direct market access so I can purchase individual equities.

An amazing lack of response here!!!

I managed to do some more in-depth research on what is available and it turns out you need 3 accounts to operate:

    1. Indian bank account (for transfer of monies used in buying/selling)
    2. Indian brokerage account (ensure the brokerage is registered with the RBI - Reserve Bank of India)
    3. Demat account (essentially a bank account for your shares)

If anyone wants more info, feel free to get in touch.
