A couple of good books to get you started Baretto

Contrarian Investment Strategies the next generation by David Dreman

Martin Prings introduction to technical analysis....Get the CD as well as its interactive and tells you when you go wrong

Contrarian Investment Strategies is OK.  However its a little heavy going and he uses 10 pages to describe something when 2 will do.

For a beginner I would recommend something like "One Up on Wall Street" by Peter Lynch.  Don't worry that its written for the US market.  Still applies in the UK.

The "Naked Trader" by Robbie Burns will also give a grounding in some of the basics.

"How to Make Money in Stocks" is also interesting and an easy read.  This is focussed around one particular method (CAN SLIM) but some of the concepts are interesting.

If you want something a bit harder to digest try "The Intelligent Investor".  One of the bibles of investment but hard going at times and a little out of date now.

Thanks for the suggestions, I had a look on Amazon and The Naked Trader looks like a great place to start.

If I can make nearly £400 in three months like Dave, i will be happy

    Cheers

Its a very easy book to read so not a bad way to start.  Aim not to lose money in the beginning rather than to make too much!

You should also look for some websites where you can research individual shares.  Something such as www.digitallook.com is quite comprehensive.

Zulu, thanks for the suggestion about TA.  I'll have a look at Martin Pring's stuff.  I've always been a bit loath to delve in too deeply with TA but I know it will probably boost my returns a little.
