    Mentoring eachother?

    Hi

I am a new member and I've recently bought my first property. I've been doing lots of research in buying property and I've also been reading through the posts in the forum and have learnt so much practical tips.

The mentorship programs seem to cost so much and I believe that like-minded individuals with an enthusiasm to share knowledge would be great.

I was wondering if anyone out there would be interested in sharing thoughts, ideas and knowledge off this forum.

Feel free to send a personal message/email

    Gary

    Re: Mentoring eachother?

    Hi Gary

The mentorship programmes can be very expensive and the quality is very variable.  Some programmes masquerade as mentorship when they are really a series of seminars (heavily loaded with sales pitches for other programmes and other people's courses) and contact with the supposed mentor is nigh on impossible.

Others I am sure are much better and can give you the focus and step by step help you need to build your business.

Often for a new starter, it is easy to feel daunted by the fantastic success of the mentor - how do you get from where you are to where they are, and is what they are teaching still relevant given changes in the market, lending etc?

One of the best approaches is peer mentoring - people at a similar level helping each other along the way.  Often it is more inspiring to work with someone who is just a step or two ahead of you rather than someone who has done it all and bought the Ferrari!  One of the best ways to do this is to get involved in an active and supportive online community such as Singing Pig, or my own forum at www.propertyjedi.com/forum

You should also consider getting to as many networks as you can.  You will often find seasoned pros willing to chew the fat over a pint and will get some invaluable insights and answers to your questions.  Most people are delighted to help - it is a compliment to them that you consider them knowledgeable.

Good luck with your property (ad)ventures.

    Re: Mentoring eachother?

Why on earth would it be necessary to share ideas/thoughts et al "off forum" ?. It's all here, if you can be bothered to look for it.

    Re: Mentoring each other?

It may be all here, but some people get motivated on different levels. Some prefer to build one-on-one relationships as they go along, not a faceless forum; others like to talk or meet up, not necessarily at a network meeting but a more informal one.etc

I think it's a great idea to start some sort of mastermind group to mentor each other forward. Beware though of only conferring with people who are at your level. Question you might ask is what they might be able to teach, if you're all fumbling along. A real mentor has been there, and done it all and can share real life experiences, not theory.

If you have one property e.g. why not look for someone with 3 or 6 properties to team up with?

Another question you might want to ask yourself is, what exactly are you wanting to gain from a mentorship and focus on who might be able to provide precisely that.
