"We've had worse days, Rodney" !

Oh YES ! I like it.

Our latest success is 2 planning appeal decisions received on 2 consecutive days for 2 planning appeals in Downham Market, Norfolk - one for a single building plot, and the other for two plots.

Both appeals were upheld and the planning permissions granted for the 3 plots.

And, with a previous successful appeal against the same council - the site also being in Downham Market ! -  that gives us a 100% track record of successful appeals against Kings Lynn & West Norfolk District Council planning refusals.

It is particularly pleasing for me that both of the above successes were for a client who came to us via SINGING PIG.  (Shhh ! Or David will be requesting commission !)Big Smile

We presently have yet another appeal in progress in Downham Market for yet another Singing Pig client, and are hoping to maintain our 100% success record there with another success.

(But come on, own up - do you piggers ALL live in bl**dy Downham Market, or what ? ? ?Big SmileBig Smile

Re: "We've had worse days, Rodney" !

heartiest congrats LPA  !!!  must be very satisfying indeed to stop these small minded beaureaucrats from being jobs-wurfs  all day long every day !!

i had a similar  "YES" !!!!!!!   day yesterday when i learnt that a tenant who i had just evicted last week was found guilty of possession of a couple of kilos of the "controlled" stuff with intent to supply   -  "YES !!!!!!!!  justice !!

small minded beauracracy in the housing benefit department are now after some "claw-back" money from me  -

last autumn the witch tried to get her housing benefit stopped from my account and wanted it going into hers  -  fortunately my good relations with the HB supervisor locally  meant she gave me a call - and she put a stop to that little wheeze and i continued to get the HB -

now said tenant was evicted - she told HB she had moved out 10 days earlier than when we arrived with the bailiffs to find her minion inside cleaning the house   -  and HB want some money back from me

I'm appealing  - of course  !!  if they believed me last autumn  - why are they believing her now ?????

no sense to the council mind  - no sense at all ......

but - i do hope her forwarding address becomes  c/o HPM Holloway

Re: "We've had worse days, Rodney" !

    Thanks very much Clottie.

Yes, it is great fun giving bureaucrats a kicking. And mine is a great job when we're winning. But it can get quite depressing when an Inspector sides unreasonably with the council, as some do occasionally. It is disappointing knowing you won all the arguments hands down, but didn't get the verdict. Regrettably we can't win them all; nobody can. But, in all modesty, we do much better than most.

Well done to you too with your troublesome tenant. And you seem to be suffering from the same dead hand of the bureaucrats as most of my clients do.

I'm absolutely convinced that bureacrats are the great drain on this country's performance. They hold us all back, cost us a bloody fortune, and then incompetently waste half of the money they take from us.

Worse than that, I have noticed an alarming Stalinist attitude growing in all public "service" fields, following the lead of our current Labour central government. It is reported in the newspapers today that a young woman has been fined £75 by the "Environmental Crimes Unit" of a local authority (Environmental Crimes - Ha ! Can you believe it ? !Angry ) because, when walking along eating a sausage roll, she went to put a small piece in her child's mouth and it dropped to the floor, where pigeons promptly disposed of it in a couple on minutes.

But two - TWO ! - jobsworths on the prowl from the Environmental Crimes Unit immediately stopped her and threatened her with arrest when she refused to give her name, then issued a fixed penalty ticket for £75. Patently bloody absurd ! These jobsworths contribute absolutely NOTHING to the prosperity or safety of the country or its law-abiding citizens, nor to the ability of people to enjoy their lives. It's nothing to do with litter - it's all about throwing weight around and showing us who's boss.

Yes, but she was an easy touch. If it were a group of "hoodies" I bet that the incident would have been ignored. It's not just council officials that are two faced:

Same attitude on the railways that I resigned from some years ago (fearing for my safety, having been pushed down the stairs at Alexandra Palace station). I was on my own. I had been working thus for a least a year - the "management" having decided that Inspectors could do double the trains if out singly, rather than as doubles. However, they were concerned about safety (or more that if we were assaulted, this being a greater possibility when being on your own, it would result in increased sick leave) so we had training in "conflict avoidance". In a nutshell, this meant that if we found a scroat with no ticket, particularly if there was more than one or a group, we were to just ask them to write their name and address on a piece of paper (looks better for other passengers that you seem to be "doing something") then withdraw, preferably to the next carriage. The name and address would no doubt be false, so it was never followed up. For non-conflict situations e.g. females, business commuters "the suites", and families the full penalty fares legislation was operated.

Unfortunately I see no end to this, because as a nation most of us are too compliant. Would the French ever allow their government to bring in legislation to prevent peaceful protest outside their legislative chamber? or would they, once they took action to blockade oil depots due to fuel price hikes, sit back and allow their government to bring in rules to prevent this happening again?

We could change things. For example, if 50% of motorists with parking fines appealed instead of the 0.5% the system would completely breakdown. Or if many hundreds submitted separate applications to lawfully protest outside the House of Commons they would not be able to cope.

I am coming more and more to the conclusion that as bureaucrats have brought in all this legislation and paperwork, the only way to fight is by using the bureaucracy and paperwork that these minions flourish under against them.

Re: "We've had worse days, Rodney" !

hear hear DAvid   -   well said  - and you LPA

i recall in the '80's i was one of millions who did not pay their poll tax as a protest  - and clogged up the system

in Bristol  - (always a hive of cutting-edge social grass roots movements) a huge force of folks refused to pay and were taken to the magistrates courts  - the courts were clagged for months and months

if the accused were found guilty - then very quickly folks realised that if they had no money to pay for fines/outstanding poll tax bills that bailiffs could come and take away  their property and sell it   - so  everyone "sold" their stuff to each other -   with receipts of course  -   so that there was nothing for bailiffs to take when they turned up ........   dontcha just lurve civil action !!!

a mate of mine was in court when a 'deaf' woman was in the dock and her case took forever as there were no 'sign-language' experts in those days  -  fianlly the magistrate dismissed the case in utter frustration   - as her McKenzies friend was taking sooooo long to communicate between magistrate and accused  -   the accused walked out of the dock into the public lobby where she began winking and giggling   -   no more deaf than the rest of 'em !!

those were the good ole days !!!
