Newbie requires help with Affiliate Marketing

    Hi,

Can anybody help please. I want to start selling Clickbank products via Google adwords. I want to know how google adwords work such as how much per click, and what daily amount i need to spend to convert these clicks to sales.

Is this the way to start affiliate marketing or have i got it all wrong. Is there money to be made promoting clickbank products via google adwords?

All replies and honest advice will be much appreciated from people who actually know about this.

    Thanks

    Hi

What you're describing has been sold for a number of years as the Google Cash method.

It's got more difficult over the years as Google have tightened up their rules for Adwords advertising.

If you're venturing into Adwords, Perry Marshall's guide is essential reading. At an absolute minimum, get and read his free email course.

Is there money in affiliate marketing? Yes. Especially if you are the one who created an in-demand product that lots of affiliates want to promote. But there's money even if you're promoting someone else's products.

Is there money in promoting Clickbank products through Adwords? Yes, but you need to know what you're doing or you could easily lose cash or be charged an arm and a leg for clicks.

Tread cautiously to start with. Monitor regularly. Test, test and test again (Perry's course will emphasise that).

    Good luck!

    Trevor

I tried promoting several clickbank products through adwords but found that you spent more than you could earn from the commission.  I have read Perry Marshalls Definitive Google Adwords and would agree with Trevor that it is essential.  My tests so far have not found a clickbank product that can make more than Google adwords make from me.

Trevor is 'Google Cash' a worthwhile book or is it now outdated?

    Hi

I've had a few Clickbank products where I've made more than I've spent but they're typically not run of the mill. Much depends on the keywords & their cost and whether Google will even run your ads at the price you want to pay. Some work for a while and then die an inexplicable death, others are non-starters and a few are nicely profitable. Remember not just to stick to Clickbank. There are plenty of other programs out there that aren't promoted as hard simply because they're not on Clickbank. Skim through the Associate Programs site for more of these.

I haven't read the latest update of Google Cash but I guess by the way it keeps getting updated & also that Perry Marshall has a section on their system that it probably still works.

To make cash, aim to build a list. Which means send traffic to a "landing page" (ideally one that is closely related to your keywords so the bid price is low) then feed the opt-ins useful information. Mike Filsaime suggests that your emails give them info in the shape of "what to do" and then at the end of the email present a "how to do it" in the form of a sales link.

Good luck! And remember, if it was too easy, everyone would be doing it.

Thanks for your reply Trevor.  Very much appreciated.   The lists seem to be the way forward as sending leads directly to the Merchants Sales page doesn't seem to result in enough sales.

Thanks for this also - I need to keep chipping away until I get things working.  It's more work developing the relationship via the lists however it will be worth it if profitable.

Re: Newbie requires help with Affiliate Marketing

The snag with sending traffic to the merchant's sales page is that you only get "one bite at the cherry" whereas with a list (so long as you don't bug them all immediately) you get more chances. More often than not, the merchant doesn't particularly care whether the conversion rate is 1/2% or 2% or whatever, even though they should do as it affects their profitability by customer. The better ones will track and test and tweak but they're in a minority.

Stay on top of costs. Give yourself a ratio and stick closely to it. So if you stand to get $20 commission and you've spent more than $40 chasing that with no sales, regroup. Decide whether it's your keywords (including the various matching options) or their page. If you've got access to a decent system like Wordtracker, use it to get a better handle on negative keywords. They can make all the difference - for instance, someone looking for a software program using "crack" or "warez" in their search is unlikely to be a buyer but may still click.

I wish I'd spent a bit more time building lists as well...

    Hi Trevor,

If you are creating your own product for affiliate programs like Clickbank, do they verify it before accepting it?

Would it not be more profitable to promote it yourself than through an affiliate?

With lists, do you send a pre-determined number of emails via auto-responder, e.g. 6 info. messages then the sales pitch message?

    Thanks.
