I am looking into being an affiliate in some depth at the moment to see if there is real money to be made, which I believe there is.  A question that keeps coming to mind though is whether you have to be good at creating your own websites because it appears to me that that is what a lot of affiliates do, then sell multiple products through it.

A lot of the advice for affiliates is to "pre-sell" the deal so that you're sending customers who are more inclined to buy to the main site. This is good advice.

This implies that you need a web site. But it doesn't have to be an all-signing, all-dancing site. A blog works fine for many affiliates.

Ideally, keep the blog under your control. Which means hosting it on your site rather than using a free blog hosted at Blogger or wherever. If your host uses cPanel, go to the Fantastico link and select Wordpress for a one click install.

Then use your blog to pre-sell and place your affiliate links in this part.
