    100,000 conned by Cypriots

'Beware of Greeks bearing gifts' rang true today when the Cypriot Govt did nothing to help 100,000 people who have bought homes from Cypriot developers who have witheld deeds and subsequently remortgaged the properties. To compound matters, the same developers have collected immovable property tax from unsuspecting owners and not forwarded this on to the tax dept. Furthermore to make matters even worse, they have gone bust and now the banks are knocking on houseowners doors asking for the house back.'Fraud and Deception' are cries from the crowd but the police do nothing, it would appear the developers are in bed with the government.

For 29 years the Cypriots have been bellywalling how the north stole their land, well, its seems they play the same game but more subtly.

Read all about it here  http://www.opipt.com/Cymortgagescam.htm especially todays update dated 11th June.

Rather old news. The EU has since been asked to put pressure on Cyprus and has a very powerful weapon  - subsidies. The EU has already witheld billions in EU grants to Spain to force it to clean up its act and could easily do the same to Cyprus. If that happens you'll get your deeds before you can say Panathanaikos.

    Re: 100,000 conned by Cypriots

According to the lastest this week, the Cypriot goverment have stated they will change the laws to suit new buyers but those who have current claims (the 100,000) have little recourse except thro local courts which no doubt will take years and end up in the court of human rights in the EU. Cyprus has done irreparable damage to its property industry through its shady dealings in fact the whole island seems cursed with problems both north and south.

I think you underestimate the power of the EU. If they can force us to give up pounds and ounces and wonky bananas, I'm sure they'll make short work of the Cypriot land registry. Especially if it threatens to hold on to those lovely subsidies. Much as we all despise Brussels it occasionally has its uses.

    Re: 100,000 conned by Cypriots

Crooks always look for excuses to justify their ill gotten gains. You seem to be doing the same.......

of the 100,000 you claim probably 70% are Cypriot themselves, no one is happy with the situation, but legislation takes time to be processed. Like I said before, these things will be dealt with in due course, the government will do the necessary as required.

There are no ECJ rulings against the RoC, nor any UN resolutions nor any indictments for war crimes against humanity, unlike some areas illegally held being pursued for.

You are obviously sensationalising the problem because you have 'beef' with me, but the situation is not as bad as you make out, you want to sell properties in the north so you have to blacken the south in order to be able to shift your dodgy gear. I understand the tactics, but whichever way you cut it, the south is is the only legally recognised area worldwide, and EU member, and a safe place to be in. Which is a lot less than I can say about the other part under military occupation.

I hope you are warning your buyers that the properties you are peddling are subject to repossion and any assets they have EU wide are at risk if they still go ahead with it. I bet you are not even mentioning it, are you? No best keep that quiet, lets just get the sale huh?

Well, my original post was to warn unsuspecting investors of the problems, you have chosen to make this personal. No worries, I have an answer to all your questions where the north is concerned because I have justice on my side, you have nothing.

    Have a nice day len.

The busting of the first Cypriot developer will now no doubt open the floodgates to an inevitable conclusion..........put `em on the same ship as the Brtish Government and sink the lot, just make sure the Cypriot Govt is travelling steerage.

    Re: 100,000 conned by Cypriots

So whats the point, companies go bust regularly, even well respected ones. So what happend to Woolworths, Northern Rock, MFI and many others??? Nothing new, times are hard, some wrong decisions made and Bam! Your F...ed.

Your scaremongering is of no use, at least there is a court that can be approached, but hey, the north had judgements against it so who you gonna call? Ghost Buster????

Come on len, you can do better than that, than troll the internet for ***, its an easy game to play. Whats for real though is that all those illegal purchases in the north of Cyprus are about to get repossessed, and you are STILL trying to palm them off to unsuspecting investors, the cheek. Pot and black springs to mind. Hypocrite.

Oh, I do agree with you however on sinking that ship, preferably in shark infested waters though.
