i have been learning for ages and ages  -  the written exams all have to be done within an 18 month period - otherwise they lose their validity and i now have lost 5 exams and will have to re-do them   -   beggar !!!!!!!  serves me right for not studying hard enough  .   hey ho  - i still can go flying with my Luvverly instructor tho and i took  some great piccies of  longleat, bath, wells, a couple of weeks ago, plus great sunsets over the river severn

being allowed to fly alone for the first time, was one of theeeeeeeeeeeee  best moments in my life  - its like a dream  -   who me - lil ole me ????   flying a plane ???  YES !!!

for young men who want to become a pilot  - they have to finance their own training  - airlines dont do that anymore - and they can reckon on spending between £70-£90k to do so !!!!  plus  -  rising fuel costs

but you can join a microlight club and fly tiny planes for a lot less

to get a pilots license you need to do a minimum of 45 hours training  (if you are over 30 this could be much more - if you are "mature" this could double or even triple )!!!   you have to pass 7 written exams, a 3 hour flying test, and a practical radio exam.  current costs are around £150 an hour and rising fast with fuel costs.

 

many new pilots buy a share in a plane  1/4   1/6  1/12  depending on the number of folks in the syndicate   from £5-8k  to  £20k depends on the aircraft - then your hire rates can be half of what you would pay for private hire from a flying school 

My other half was 26 when he got his licence, but he only took the 45 hours bang on. WIth his purchase of the plane, and contract to rent it out via the flying school, he got his tuition free.
