    Ebay Power Seller Advice Needed

Hi I have been trading on ebay now for a few years on a relative scale and am looking to increase the volume of sales I do. I'm interested in people who sell as powersellers or have an ebay shop to share advice. I am also interested in anyone who sells bulk items to be sold on ebay from the UK. The items I would like would be small and have a retail price of £30 - £100.

Anyone with information please e-mail to rhys@saltwater-kayak-fishing.com .

     Many thanks

Re: Ebay Power Seller Advice Needed

I used to be a power seller,  I stopped selling on ebay about a year ago as I found other interests.  My main ebay income came from selling low value items in bulk.  The bulk cost of my items ranged from £2.99 to £12.99 depending on quantity.  I had loads of customers per day and plenty of return custom.  I tried the various ebay shop options and found no need for the more expensive one so quickly down graded to the basic one.  There used to be massive benefits from directing buyers to purchase from your shop.  This is not the case now so much.  Ebay tend to be quite greedy and are never happy with the amount of profit they make from their full time ebayers.  Ebay are all too aware that most of their successful Powersellers do not have a viable business without them.  My suggestion would be to continue with ebay until you can sell from your own website.  There are also other aution sites around now such as Tazbar,  could be worth looking at.

    Regards

    Iain

    Hi Iain,

Thanks for the response. I am actually currently in the process of creating my own e-commerce website and ebay is really a case of increasing sales with my suppliers so that in the future I will be able to get greater discounts and keep the cashflow going. I am also looking for a manual credit card processing program online. I have managed to source a few e.g paypal and web merchant but the initial setup costs and monthly costs don't make them very cost effective for sales of less than a £1000 a month. Does anyone know of any low cost virtual terminals with no monthly fees or setup fess just a percentage of the sale?

What products did you used to sell?

    Many thanks

     Rhys

I sold mainly packaging and postal products.  This is a very popular area on ebay and also very competetive.  The reason for its popularity is that people who sell on ebay need to post their sold items,  if your using ebay to sell then why not use it to buy.

Hi..I am not a powerseller, but after 2000+ transactions, can say that unless your margins are very high ,or your postage costs can be set to recoup some of the paypal type costs, then I would think having your own website makes more sense.

I am seeing e-bay  after 2 years trading as a very expensive way to do business.

As with Amazon, and selling second books, its the maximum exposure that it gives you that keeps one using it,but for how long.

Powersellers should be able to get their eBay fees down to 10%.

I wonder if anyone out there can give their PPC as percentage of turnover.

As for paypal its cheaper than most credit card processors out there once you start turning over a decent amount of money 1.4% plus 20p. Most people online start with worldpay their charge is 3.5%?
