    Moving US Dollars

    Hi,

I forward booked around $35,000 USD for a property purchase but the completion date has been put back a year. The money is sitting in a US bank account earning zero interest and I wondered whether someone could suggest a better place to put the money until I need it to complete the purchase.

    Thanks

Assuming you need to stay in USD why not have a look at bonds with 1 year maturity, with interest rates likely to fall the capital value should also rise as well as returning interest payments,if looking at corporate bonds make sure your comfortable with the solvancy of the company concerned or stick to treasury issues

    Thanks Zulu,

I am a total novice when it comes to things like this and would not know where to start. How would I go about this?

    Thanks

Well I'm not usa based mark but for direct investment in corporate bonds talk to your stockbroker (if you don't yet have one they should be happy to have an initial chat about services offered including a list of bonds, the yield (interest rate)and credit rating)

Another alternative if you feel uncomfortable with direct selection is a bond fund these are available from mutual funds groups and is a safer option as your money will be spread between differant issues, try and find a no initial charge fund as your only investing for a short period
