    clottie:

i also agree with David that i think it is now illegal to not have address details on a website.

I was under the impression that this rule applied only to limited companies, and they also need to include their company registration number. I may be wrong - perhaps somebody can quote 'chapter and verse'?

In the case of DFS, they don't claim to be a limited company.

i dont know the "chapter and verse"  - but common sense tells me that i will never deal with any company who are not willing to be transparent about where they are  - if they run off with my money  I'm stuffed if i have no address .....

It doesn't matter whether it's a sole prop, partnership or Ltd Co.

A reasonable précis of the regulations are at this site.

    Thanks.

I must confess, the differences with respect to transactional/non-transactional websites did not seem clear to me from the Discus site; I found a couple of others which explain it a little better, to my mind:-

    http://www.out-law.com/page-431

and the 'official' site (if you can stand the slow download time)

    http://www.berr.gov.uk/files/file14635.pdf

To my mind, the regulations seem to be a little heavy handed in respect of websites which are simply advertisements, where any 'contracts' would be made using some other means of communication, but then that is not the only occasion when the UK's wonderful government (not to mention the EU) have been heavy handed. At least one of the sites I looked at mentioned that these regulations were not widely publicised - seems to be true, I found a couple of websites with no address, even transactional sites - within a few minutes!
