    RE: Gambling.....

Who determines whether your gambling activity consititutes a system or a business?
Surely most people who gamble and make profit have some kind of system or am I missing the point here?

    RE: Gambling.....

Wouldn't you just say you were self-employed as a pro-gambler?

I would hope you do have a system bunny!

    RE: Gambling.....

You would hope I have a system?! So would I! Think I misunderstood Mister H's post re using a system versus running a system.

I guess I can't get my head round making large sums of money relatively (all in the eye of the beholder) risk free and the tax man not claiming any of it.

    Not complaining though turn

    RE: Gambling.....

    Hi book bunny,

I probably didn't make myself very clear. Personal gambling is obviously exempt from Tax but a different view is taken if you a running (for example) a racing club, or selling the system, or selling the daily tips. That becomes a business and is treated accordingly.

This is different to successful gamblers who must have a system to use, combined with a staking plan.

My research and planning was done this morning, and that took just under an hour.

Today I had a fairly easy day, with 3 winners from 5 races and that means my day is over!!
    Prices were: 9/2, 4/1 and 11/4

At the time I write this message I noticed that if I had carried on today, I would have picked 6 winners from 9 races.
Prices for the others were: 11/8, 7/2 and 1/2

Okay, off to pick my son up from nursery.

    RE: Gambling.....

So H, 3 out of 5 eh? Is that a pretty average day? Did you put the same bets (£) on each race?

    RE: Gambling.....

    Hi BTL King,

I checked my results for the afternoon's racing and I had 4 winners at Ayr and 3 winners from Brighton. That constitutes an average day, as I do expect to get 3 winners from each racecourse.

I also would have won both place pots today x 2, so Ayr would have been £179.80 x 2, and Brighton would have been £83.00 x 2

However, putting the place pots on was one job that I forgot to do today!!! :-(

And no, I do not operate a level stakes plan. I always set an aim to win a specific amount (usually a percentage of the bank) and bet accordingly.

    RE: Gambling.....

Just a quickie 'H' - I saw a race over the weekend that was for novice nags, some with no 'previous' at all. Do you ever bet on that sort of race? I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't!
