Hi having read all the posts here and looked at the dates which are back in 2005 - 2008 I can confirm that the Hotel and Resort operator is Oasis part of the Globalia Group a very large company from Spain, who currently run a number of Hotels in the Caribbean and are very experienced.

They also own an airline Air Europa and have over 1400 Travel Agents.

The problems with Merricks was not the Developers fault, planning permission had been granted but the Developer was asked to purchase further land. On doing so they were then advised that new planning permission was required for the whole area.

With over 5 Resorts currently at various stages of development and with the various dignitaries behind the Developer it seems unlikely that there is anything to get concerned about. Buccament Bay is now built and just requires all the finishing touches and will be out in brochures this year being advertised for bookings for next year. 

I trust this adds some comfort to any investors who have purchased through this developer and if I can help in any way please let me know.

Sorry to bring this back down to earth with a bump, but:

 - Any serious developer would not have made the commitments Harlqequin did. The constant breaking of promises around delivery dates (including the latest) smacks of either inexperience or incompetence. Pinning this all on the planning process is in MHO incorrect.

- Buccament Bay is not built. In fact the apartment blocks are nowhere neart complete and I'd be very surprised if the resort is ready for summer 2010.

- Which other 4 resorts are underway? My sources inform me that no other resorts have started major construction work yet (apart from clearing of land).

- I don't believe full planning permission has been received yet.

I suspect that Harlequin don't have sufficient cash to start Merricks until they get completions on Buccament Bay, in winter 2010.

 If Merricks does ever get built, it won't be ready until 2013 at best, so if you're in for a lot of money you need to decide whether to wait for a few more years and hope Harlequin stay afloat, or take your money and run whilst you can (if your contract allows this).

I have just returned from Barbados 10th Dec 2009.

While i was there i arranged to meet a Harlequin rep who flew in from St Lucia to meet me.

I can tell you that the Merricks have not got planning permission as of Dec 2009. I know this as i went to the Town & Planning  office to check on the status before i met the rep They told me that the planning permission has not been granted yet due to the scale of the development i then asked if the  planning permission  would be granted and in his opinion he thinks it would be passed in due course.

Regarding the site all there is is a bill board with details of the development there are no signs of any ground being broken no show houses or any signs of them being bulit & then removed as the rep surgestion.

In my opion i don't think the development would be built by Dec 2012 but if they get the  planning permission  in the next 6 months i think it will get built.

As there are alot of developments being built Harliquin may miss the boat regarding  the timing of the project.

I am also an invester in the Merricks.
