The current market is not all doom and gloom. There are some great bargains out there. When the market recovers, it will become harder to find bargains. If interest rates continue to fall, house prices may not fall much more.

Philip Green is looking to buy more shops from the Icelandic Banks and Warren Buffet has just spent (was it £3bn?) in GE general electric.

I'm after some cheap repossessions in next weeks auctions that will make great investments.

one issue, sadly he is not here to defend himself anymore

the main problem for me is that markets have their peaks and troughs, understanding these and benefiting form them is the hard part.

he never STR'd as he had nothing to sell, he was stationed in the UK by his employer, also he miscalled the slump by many years, and started crowing about buying Hong Kong and German property last year (or before) which has been hit very very hard.

it is rather like me now crowing that there will be a property boom, get in and buy now..... sooner or later i will be right and if in 6 years we are in a property boom i will claim i was right all along.....would i be a genius? Or just dogmatic whichver way i would be wrong just keep banging on and eventually i will be right

well here goes, we are in for the biggest property boom ever! get in and buy now, as much as you can i am the guru, i am the expert. I will spend the next 5 byears slaggimng off all those who disagree, and in a few years when prices start heading North at a pace i will be vindicated,

he funadmentaly did not understand property, this is evident in his posts, in fact one showed a glaring lack of knowledge, which is fine as one cannot know all things about everything, therefore i falied to see why he bothered to post on the subject, what he totaly missed is that in his mythical STR to invest the cash, he could have kept the property which would be worth double (or more) what it was when the STR claim was made, and still had the cash to invest

one also would like to now if the mythical investments have bucked the trend (he works for a firm that creates trading software for institutions, this was all found out ages ago), and he has lied behind the safety of his keyboad, thus for me has no credibility at all,

yes, some of what he said has come to pass, however mostly on guesswork and the fact that we have cycles in markets.

he was totally and utterly wrong in the timing, which was the most important thing, the fact that a downturn would occur frankly is a given, but calling it just about as wrong as you can get does not make you a genius

    I'm glad he's gone

Bubb's probably off telling all the Gold investors to prepare for meltdown.

    Two (I think fair) questions:

Was Bubb right about investing in property?: Bubb clearly missed the property boat and he didn't know enough about practical property investing to eek out any kind of attractive longterm yields. He predicted a drop in prices - but didn't we all know it was coming?

What Bubb couldn't grasp or admit was that a downturn in prices isn't the be all and end all.

Was Bubb right about investing in Gold / Gold Mining: Clearly he knew his onions on those matters...well mostly.

I recall Bubb taking the moral high ground about Gold versus BMV and the ethics thereof. Bubb clearly hadn't done much research into the use of child labour in this industry.

Bubb was a great debater though - I'll give him that.

Genious?....I think not -  probably very clever.

Bubb used historic data to predict an outcome...his timing was a little off, but eventually he got it right.

Of course Bubby was right. The crash had to happen eventually: surely nobody but Gordon Brown actually believed in the abolition of boom and bust. Just as I now confidently predict an upturn in the economy and rising property values. I just ain't saying when!

Re: Dr Bubb, Genius or just pure luck ?

I think where Bubb differed from many others - was that he did put his money where his mouth went!

He dropped investment in property and sold his financial Soul to Gold.

He called it too soon in terms of expert property investment, but he was pin sharp in terms of generic analytical investment.

    Quick Q & A :

    • Would I take an investment tip from Bubb.....I'd have him on the payroll if I could afford him - he's passionate about money.
    • Am I still glad he's gone........Yes.

I've also studied one or two graphs and I'm gona take a leaf from The Bubb Times.

I'll report back when the timing's right - might take a while though.....

Re: Dr Bubb, Genius or just pure luck ?

I have to say if it was DrBubb's well thought out and well presented arguments which prompted me to exercise caution in expanding my BTL interests. This inspired me to do further research which resulted in the postponement of my expansion plans. I'm glad I did as I would have been buying in what Fred Harrison calls the winner's curse phase in his 18 year property cycle theory.

DrBubbs interview on commodity watch radio in July 2007 reproduced on youtube and given a visual format was very poinient IMO.

the irony for me is that the interviewer is a comedian and voice over artist...... with a passable american accent.....

    maybe he is Dr Bubb!!
