Re: Rich Dad Poor Dad - A Secret Society?

    Hi all,

I couldn't agree more with all your comments. Do you remember in the film "The Martix" when Neo first discovered there was more to the world than what his eye's could see. Well that's exactly how I felt after reading RDPD a few years ago. Since then I've read many books on money, enterpreneurship, personal development, etc. I'm attempting to start my own business (part time at the moment). And trying to network with as many like minded individuals as I can. And you're right it does sometimes feel like you're a memebr of some secret society, as when I talk to my work collegues (the day job), they look and me blankly or laugh nervously and be little your ideas.

Wife, family, friends and children, many don't get it. Can't understand it, (don't want to accept it). But sometimes, just sometimes you meet with like minded people, like here on SP. I'm lucky enough to have a father in law who is an enterpreneur and businessman himself, so I'm able to talk to him often. He once told me "there are none so blind, as those who will not see". I think it's a quote from somethere, I don't know and frankly I don't care. But I like it and I'm always happy to meet and talk to like minded people.

Re: Rich Dad Poor Dad - A Secret Society?

RDPD is good. I was in a really tough situation, and still am, people telling me it is v dangerous, etc. It is. I still have the day job, and love it. But like Neo, I know the day job is a dream, not real. I see myself as part of someone else's system. I am trying to use that realisation to improve my performance there, in that system too. The market effect trys to eliminate your edge all the time. The day job is my insurance. The more I experience the other side, the more I see that things that I thought were far fetched in RDPD are actually true. The book understates even, presumably so that readers actually believe it. That was the really difficult part for me. Believing that the book is not just US style hype. Also operating/living abroad drives home the effects of globalisation. If you want to operate abroad, it is worth living outside the UK...

When the heat is up, I buy a different volume and read that. I have read the lot now. There is another book, sometimes mentioned on here, that talks about building your business, making a manual for it, a living workbook for your new employees, etc. That your business, your model must be sellable. The buyer must see that they can do it, otherwise they will not buy it. The same is true of a property, the condition and use in relation to its location, etc. The sellability of the business model is also useful for evaluation of prospects for your commercial lets. It may help reduce your voids!

I think its less a secret society these days as there is a lot of stuff on the net and in new age thinbking about self development.

I thought rdpd was good but preferred the much more recent dvd "The secret"

This really does contain mind blowing stuff on the Law of attraction - backed up by quantum physics and ancient spiritual teachings. It really alters the way you think when you see how everything you attract into your life is there because of the thoughts you think and the actions those thoughts produce!!

Re: Rich Dad Poor Dad - A Secret Society?

My wife and I read RDPD 3-4 years ago plus one or two follow up books.  We found it has completely changed how we operate in terms of how we spend our money and how we should build a financially secure future.  Taking control of our income has become a priority for us and we are learning how to do this by having our own little businesses and our own assets.  The job can so easily eat up one's own emotional energy and entrap you because it steals your time.

Regarding 'The Secret', I have not watched the DVD, however I have attended a number talks that speak of quantum mechanics having an influence on how the world can be changed dependent on one's behaviour and mental attitude.  My first degree was in Physics and I can assure you that Quantum Mechanics has nothing to do with how an individual can influence the macro environment, use it as an thinking aid by all means if it helps, but it is no more than that.  Having said that, I do think that one's belief system does influence what you do and that it is so important to get yourself in a positive frame of mind when it comes to generating wealth.  Surrounding yourself with similar minded folk is very important too, particularly when it comes to networking because opportunities are more likely to present themselves.

An excellent book written nearly 100 years ago is a fine instruction manual on how getting rich can be described as an actual science.

    It's free too.

Re: Rich Dad Poor Dad - A Secret Society?

I read Felix Dennis's "How to get rich" and the watched the DVD "What the bleep to we know" recently. Loved them both, Felix Dennis's book. Apart from the classic "how to make a million?, write a book and sell it to a million suckers". Is as far a I'm concerned a soberingly honest book. Which bacally says, it's not for everyone, there are some hard choices to make along the way and you may loss a lot of your old friends and relationships. But if your determined and you stick with the process, then you might, just might do it. Oh and what if you do, what then?

And "What the bleep", cosmic, quantum reallity. It is what you think it is, or more to the point, what you want it to be and believe it is. I could talk for ages about the subject, but won't do so here.

Needless to say, check them both out, I'd be interested in anyone else's comments.

Re: Rich Dad Poor Dad - A Secret Society?

I didn't actually read the book, but listened to it through a downloaded audio book.

For me the book simply justified all my beliefs about money and highlighted even more areas which I had not thought about. I sent the audio book to a friend and its completely changed his beliefs on money to the extent, hes selling his property and moving back home. However, another friend I also sent it to didn't understand and just simply couldn't put logic to some of the concepts though.
