    mentoring re John Lee

Hi I have been highly recommended to get mentoring from John Lee. I am not a complete beginner but have just given my job up to do this full time and need some guidance and a plan as I am looking and networking and talking to agents but as yet nothing found. I am doing a leaflet drop but dont feel positive about it in my area and want to do more refurbs and have a few BTL

Any advice / help or know anyone that has used John Lee would be appreciated

    Thanks Caroline

You've given up your job, you don't have a plan and you have no confidence of success in your area. I'd like to meet the mentor that could sort that mess out.

Fair play, Rik, but I assume that when you quit your job you at least had a plan and probably a bit of confidence in your ability. You were also fortunate that in 2001 the property market was a lot different from today's.
And, no, I'm not offering mentoring - I'm a psychologist not a magician.

Hi Caro,  I've never heard of John Lee but my advice is to keep your money in your pocket - there's plenty of great advice on this site for free.  Best wishes with your business.

Don't be put off by Tony2's acerbic and condescending comments - he leaves them all over the place in an apparent attempt to stop people getting into the property investment industry.  I'm not a psychologist but think that his attitude might be explained by a post in the Finance Discussion section in a thread entitled "A little disheartened"

    In a reply to Paul,  Tony2 said;

    Thanks Pal

I stopped buying (residential property) in 2001 for a variety of reasons.
I may have got it wrong. However, .......

    Re: mentoring re John Lee

Garfield, I'm not trying to stop people getting into the property investment at all - I am trying to stop naive people getting into property investment, because those are the ones who will suffer - indeed many are.
Your copy of my old post is quite accurate, except that it fails to mention that although I did stop buying in 2001 I didn't sell, and so I have carried on making handsome profits (on paper at least) from the properties I bought some years earlier when nobody had ever heard of buy-to-let and people thought property investment was a mug's game. In that time not only has my equity grown but I've also used cashflow to reduce my debt tand therefore my exposure to falling prices and rising interest rates. A dull strategy, I know.

    Garfield

Very perceptive response..and great research too!

'acerbic and condescending comments'...not much more to add to that really..a great summary.

Err..wasn't 2001 the start of the last property boom? Perhaps I'm wrong?

Tony may have stayed in property...but to stop buying in 2001 onwards (when prices doubled in a 3 year period in most parts of the UK) wasn't the best move to be made was it?

Yet we keep getting these caustic comments. How bizarre?
