Andy Shaw - gone to the dark side?

Andy Shaw's book was an entertaining read. Some good ideas, some not so, and one or two very dangerous ones. However after having intimated that he was going to run a free seminar with 30 novice investors and 'hand hold' them through the whole process for the sole reason of producing a DVD to sell and and make money (fair enough) its now been disclosed he's charging £5,000 for the two day course (accomodation NOT included).

Sorry Andy, any credibility you had with me you've destroyed with your greed!

Re: Andy Shaw - gone to the dark side?

Personally I found this book the longest brochure ever written. Hundreds of pages to state the obvious and to point you to his website (not free, of course) for the less obvious things.

An absolute disgrace, as far as I am concerned.

    Thanks,

    GFM

    hi there,

Whats this about Five Grand - for a 2 day Course ???

I was on Ecademy Business Network, when AS contacted everyone. He provided a DownLoad of ehat seemed a remarkable Real-Life story. Disliked the marketing used for the book. Did not really understand the subscribable Forum he was pushing.

Grateful for some further details - & also whether now - you would recommend the book at £20  ?

     kind regards,

     Milton.

Re: Andy Shaw - gone to the dark side?

Hi - details of the course are here

The book's style won't suit everybody - although I did find some merit and is probably worth £20. I'm sure everyone will find some snippet of info which could be of value. However, some of the techniques are, in my opinion, downright dangerous; such as asking your family to release equity in their homes to fund purchases and only buying flats to give a couple of examples. However on balance I would probably recommend the book - if that's where it ended.

On purchasing the book you're automatically enrolled, without any permission that I can recall, into a subscription forum (about £30/month) which requires action to opt out of, and could be easily overlooked. Also people who bought the book were 'teased' with the lure of attending a hands on seminar in buying BMV, which on reading the blog many people assumed would be free, and subject to some selection procedure.  This is to be filmed for the production of a DVD for subsequent sale. The ensuing predictable 'please pick me' pleads were quick to materialise by the many people who were lured by the promise of making a fortune with the mentorship of successful entrepreneurs. Now these people are being asked £5,000 for the privilge of appearing in the DVD which takes place over 2 days. Incidentally, they have to make their own accomodation arrangements. This course is limited to only 30 people.      30 x £5,000 for two days = £150,000!!

On reading the book Mr Shaw makes constant remarks to his millions, his collection of supercars and how, now he's made his pile he wants to help others.  Unfortunately his actions speak louder than his words and his true colours have now been revealed.

Re: Andy Shaw - gone to the dark side?

I have been a member of Andy Shaws site for the last few months, His book for £20 was really motivational, I then joined his site at £40 plus vat a month, to say it was a waste of money is an understatment,

the forum is one of the friendliest you will find, but Andy Shaw has no time to answer any questions, it is utter garbage for info

,all that was promised in his book is not on the site, he is just interested in getting the forums members money, his passive investments are £35000 per property then another £15k cashflow (approx), he requires you buy 5 properties, OMG, so basically you pay him £50k to find you a house,

then this little gem of a £5000 course pops up, I was one of the members that brought up that it is a disgrace and he is greedy, I now want nothing more to do with this man or his site, he is just milking his members for all that they are worth, greed thats what its called

Re: Andy Shaw - gone to the dark side?

Yep Andy is such a money making machine not only passive investments but passive website, but he is the passive one. does very little in the way of answering his Ask Andy forum, is to busy to give the site the attention needed and then throws a wobbler when some of the fee paying members start asking questions.

One week I was being lauded as one of his success stories, by him publishing a private forum post of mine on his book ad for all to see (and it was private, members only)  to booting me of the site for commenting on some shortcomings.

Re: Andy Shaw - gone to the dark side?

I'm amazed when I read this stuff about Andy.

Why do you all have such a problem with people making money?  Why should anyone give their time and expertise away for free?  Why is it a problem to invest £5000 in a course that will show you how to make millions from property and then give you support while you do so?

Sounds like you would rather invest a few hundred quid in something that may or may not teach you, probably wont' give you any support and that 95% of people don't take action on.

(In my experience, the more you pay for tuition / coaching, the more likely you are to use that knowledge / support)

Andy and Greg (and their company) have helped many, many people - over 100 that I know of - including many of my ezine readers and including some of my closest family, if not become financially free immediately, then have the definate knowledge that they will become so within a short number of years.

Those people would NEVER have got around to doing it themselves for many reasons which I can't be bothered to list here.

I warned Andy when we were talking about him writing this book, that by making himself more public, he was running the risk of people Andy-bashing.  But I'm sure he consoles himself that the majority of people who take action and change their lives by doing what he talks about, like him well enough.

There is two sides to every story, people, and I've heard Andy's membership site people's side of this "booting off" story.

Keep an open mind, and make up your own minds.

Don't not read the book and take action because of a tiny few disgruntled folks.

Re: Andy Shaw - gone to the dark side?

I must be honest, I have already said on another thread that the first 5 chapters of his book sound exactly like a mailshot from a racing tipster.

The marketing strategy I've just read about in the previous posts on this thread - the lure of the implied free seminar and becoming one of the 'chosen few' -  followed by an offer of a paid seminar at £5,000 for 2 days is an EXACT reflection of the strategy employed by a couple of well-known horse racing tipsters. (They too flashed a stable of exotic cars as one of their credentials for plausibility.)

And I think you'll find that Inertia Selling (where punters have to opt OUT of subscribing) is actually illegal in the UK.

Andy declares that he "wants to help people", but is unfortunately giving the impression of wanting to help himself to their cash.

If I was going to pay £5,000 for a 2-day seminar, I would want to be the only person attending it. (£2500 a day is enough for anyone to earn simply by talking - especially if they have a tendency, as you say, of going off at a tangent.) And I would want to be hearing something really good for that kind of money too, and not arranging my own accommodation and meals.

For that kind of silly money, I would probably want (the late) George Carman QC to be the speaker !Wink
