Letting Your True Self Blossom
Self improvement can often seem like a daunting prospect
and something that you might believe you are incapable of doing, but with the
right personal development plan and some hard work, you can let out your true
potential. Self-improvement is just a matter of believing in yourself, and
being honest about your strengths and weaknesses. If you do this, then you can
move forward and reach your potential.
Common fears
The road to self-improvement is often littered with fear
and apprehension. Moving yourself to a place that you have never gone before
and doing things that are outside of your normal comfort zone can often be
frightening. Some common fears when following a self-improvement plan are:
- What if I'm not a good at it?
- What if it doesn't go the way I want it to? I
can't do it.
- Perhaps I'm not good enough!
- What if something goes wrong?
- Maybe
I can’t improve!
Self-improvement can be tough, but you must remember that
these fears are just a normal part of the process, and will in fact help you to
grow and mature. If you can overcome your fear, then you it will be your best
teacher and it will help you to find your true self. Here are some ways to get
over this fear, and to reach your true potential:
Acknowledge that fear is real
If you acknowledge that your
fear is real, then it will lose its power to limit your self-improvement. The
denial of fear is the only thing that keeps fear alive, so if you want self-improvement,
you have to acknowledge your fear and get it out in the open. You will be
surprised how much this helps to lessen your anxieties.
Recognise fear as
limiting your belief
Fear is simply something that limits your belief in
yourself and your abilities. If you recognise this, then you can make a
conscious decision to move in a different direction from your fear, and slowly
start self-improvement. If you are positive about what you want to do, and keep
focused on your goals, then you will be able to reach your potential, Try and
remain focussed on the present and future, as those are the times that you can
change. If you focus on the past you will not move forward, but if you live now
and for the future then you can change and become a better person.
Create achievable
goals
Perhaps one of the biggest tools you can use for self-improvement
is to create goals for yourself. A good way to create goals is in the form of a
personal development plan. If you can create a personal development plan that
shows both your current achievements, and what you want to achieve in the
future, then you have something to work with. Create goals that are both
challenging yet achievable, and set deadlines for achieving these goals. Create
both short and long term goals, so that you can improve both the small and
large issues in your life. Really take some time to think of what it is you
want to achieve, and be honest with yourself. If you have good goals, then you
will be more motivated and self-improvement will become easier. Think of it as
your own personal game, and strive to win.
Keep a journal
In order to really improve yourself, you need to be
honest with yourself and find out where you are going wrong, and also what you
are doing right. A good way to do this is to keep a journal. In the journal you
can record your thoughts and fears, as well as your achievements. Try and write
something each day, and put down something that you did well, and something
that you could have improved upon. Review your journal every few weeks, and you
might well see a pattern of behaviour that you were unaware of. This will help
you to set goals that can mend the problems in your life, and so speed up the
process of self-improvement.
Comfort is the
enemy
What you must remember about self-improvement is
that it is often uncomfortable, and many of us like to remain in our comfort
zones. Comfort is the enemy of self-improvement, as it means you remain doing
only the things you are good at and happy with. It stops you from improving and
striving forward. You need to remember why you are trying to improve yourself,
and the goals that you want to reach.
Get some support
It is always a good idea to get some support to
help you with self-improvement. Whether this is a loved one or a professional
coach, it can just help to have someone to listen to you, and to give you
feedback on yourself and your achievements. They may be able to see things that
you cannot, and show you where you are going right and wrong.

If
you can overcome your fears and set yourself some achievable goals, then you
will have started on the road to self-improvement, and eventually reaching your
true potential.
