Do You Need To Upgrade Your Computer? If you have PC, there will come a time when upgrading your
system will be necessary. Upgrading is often far cheaper than buying a whole
new computer, and there are man ways you can upgrade your PC in order to make
it better. However, knowing when and what to upgrade can be tricky. Here are
some common areas that you can upgrade to get your PC up to date and current:
Upgrading the
Operating System
If you have an operating system such as Windows that is a few years old, it
might be a good idea to upgrade. You will know it is time to upgrade when other
software applications that you want to use are not fully supported by your
current version of Windows. If this is the case, then you should look at buying
the latest release of Windows. This will allow you to use all the newest
applications, and will give your computer a longer life.
Upgrading software
In addition to upgrading your PC operating system, you
might want to look at upgrading the software applications that you use the
most. If you find that the applications you are currently using do not have the
features that would make your work more efficient, then you should look at the
newest versions of these packages. This is a fairly cheap way of improving the
life of your PC.
Upgrading
multimedia devices
If
you want to improve your PC performance and features, then look at upgrading
your multimedia devices, sound as sound cards and graphics cards. If you need
to use applications for music or graphics, or even computer games, then
regularly updating your graphics and sound cards is a good idea. Your PC will
now improved multimedia capabilities, which will allow you to perform more
tasks more efficiently and get the most out of the latest software.
Upgrading peripherals
Another
way to indirectly upgrade your PC is to get newer or more peripherals for the PC.
Getting more modern printers, scanners, or other devices can give your computer
extra functionality and help to keep it current.
Upgrading memory
Perhaps the easiest and most effective way you can upgrade
your PC is to add extra memory, or RAM. Random Access Memory, or RAM, is the
memory that allows your computer to perform its tasks effectively. All of the
other upgrades for your PC are likely to require extra RAM. RAM can be bought
for relatively little cost, and will make your computer faster and able to
complete tasks more effectively. Also, RAM is easy to install in your Windows PC,
and is simply a case of opening the case of your PC and snapping it into place.
You can usually tell if you need RAM by the speed that your computer can
perform tasks. If your computer hard drive spins and makes noise when doing
multiple tasks, it is probably time for a RAM upgrade. When performing any
other type of upgrading, especially of software or Windows, it is a good idea
to add more RAM to get the most from your upgrade.
When to upgrade
Knowing
when you should upgrade is hard to decide, but if your computer just seems
generally slower than it used to be, then upgrading is probably a good idea.
Also, you should consider the costs of upgrading against the benefits. Although
it may seem like you need to upgrade, if your PC is just for recreational use
then your money might be better spent. However, if you do work on your PC, you
need to make sure that any upgrades you perform are cost effective. Try and
work out whether the upgrade will really increase your efficiency enough to
warrant the costs. Also, if you need to extensively upgrade your system, then
perhaps it would be cheaper to completely replace your current PC. When trying
to upgrade your PC, you should take into account all of these factors. If after
consideration you believe upgrading your PC is worthwhile, then RAM should be
your first upgrade options, followed by the latest version of Windows.
